Benjamin Bourigeaud

Liverpool face a battle to sign midfield target Benjamin Bourigeaud as at least four of their direct rivals have entered the race, according to reports in Spain.

Bourigeaud, 25, is currently playing for Rennes in France and impressed last season with six goals and five assists.

Liverpool are now said to be keen to sign him but Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo claim Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United are all interested as well.

He is also attracting interest from elsewhere in Europe and Sevilla are reported to have already made a £11million (€12m) bid that was rejected.

The report from Spain claims Rennes are holding out for £18m (€20m) – which is more than the initially anticipated £13m (€15m).

Gerrard happy at Ibrox

Steven Gerrard has insisted he is happy at Rangers after shrugging off suggestions he could replace Frank Lampard at Derby.

The Ibrox boss was reported to be the Rams’ first-choice to replace Lampard should he complete his expected return to Chelsea.

But the Gers manager told Sky Sports News he is still committed to the Light Blues.

“Yes I’m aware of it but there’s nothing to say on it,” said the former Liverpool skipper. “I’m very happy. It’s a privilege to be the Rangers manager and my focus is on the coming season.

“It’s very similar to when there is noise around players. I ask them to stay focused on the job and that’s what I’ll continue to do. There’s nothing really to add to it.”

Coutinho talks Neymar

Philippe Coutinho has not spoken to Neymar about the possibility of a swap deal between Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, but admits it would be a pleasure to play with him again.

“To play with Neymar is incredible, he is a superstar,” he said. “I don’t know what will happen, but it’s always a source of happiness to speak about playing with him.

“He’s a player of another dimension and very important to any team he’s on.

“Nobody can deny his qualities and his massive talent, and we all know that.

“Right now, we don’t know what will happen but people are saying a lot of things. He’s part of the group and he has been with the group but we haven’t talked about this.”

Simon Mignolet staying

Simon Mignolet looks set to stay at Liverpool, according to the Daily Star.

He made just two appearances for Liverpool – in a 2-1 League Cup defeat by Chelsea and a FA Cup loss against Wolves.

But the Reds expect the Belgium keeper to remain at Anfield after impressing Kop boss Jurgen Klopp with his team-first attitude.

He has played the role of understudy to Alisson unselfishly and ensured the club’s new No. 1 was properly prepared for every game.

No interest

Liverpool are NOT interested in signing Real Betis defender Junior Firpo.

Jurgen Klopp’s side and Manchester United were recently linked with the versatile left-back, who was supposedly being eyed as competition for Andrew Robertson.

However, the Liverpool Echo say there’s no truth behind the reports.

The report says neither Klopp or sporting director Michael Edwards have looked at the £45million-rated 22-year-old – despite Alberto Moreno leaving this summer.

Liverpool deal completed soon

Liverpool will officially complete the signing of Northern Irish teenager Conor Bradley on July 9 – his 16th birthday.

Bradley, 15, will arrive at Liverpool from Dungannon United’s youth side on a two-year scholarship deal.

The boyhood Liverpool fan and Northern Ireland Under-16 captain told the Ulster Herald: “I can’t wait to get over it’s a great opportunity.

“I’ll be part of the U18 squad and the good thing is I know the coaches and I know most of the boys in the team. Liverpool is the club I support, so yeah, you could definitely say it’s the dream for me. I can’t wait to get started.”

Divock Origi exit

Liverpool’s Champions League hero Divock Origi is being courted by a handful of European clubs with Real Betis leading the race for the Belgian’s signature, according to reports in Spain.

Liverpool are keen to keep Origi in their books and want to reward him with a new contract.

But according to Spanish newspaper Estadio Deportivo, Origi could be on his way out of the club before he can sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January.

With just 12 months remaining on his deal, the striker is approaching the time when he will be free to speak to European clubs about a potential move and Betis are keen on targeting Origi.

The report also states that recently departed Betis chief Lorenzo Serra Ferrer was sent details about a potential transfer by a ‘trusted intermediary’ who is touting Origi around Europe.

Mohamed Salah snub

Mohamed Salah must sign for Barcelona over Real Madrid in his pursuit to become one of the world’s best players.

That is the view of ex-Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o.

When asked whether Madrid or Barcelona would be a better destination for the winger, three-time La Liga winner Eto’o had a clear answer.

“Barcelona would be a better fit,” he told BBC Sport. “Real gave me the opportunity to leave Africa but I know Barcelona’s style and I think it would be better for him.

“If he has the chance to play in the best league of the world, which is the Spanish one, he has to sign for Barcelona.”
