Man Utd wanted another Juventus player after Dybala and Mandzukic transfer attempts | Football | Sport
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was keen to strengthen his squad after a disappointing campaign last time out.
He ended up signing Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire but Manchester United were also interested in Dybala and Mandzukic.
Those moves didn’t materialise but they are not the only Juve players the Red Devils were interested in.
Juventus sporting director Paratici has now revealed that United also enquired about defender Demiral.
That’s despite the 21-year-old only joining from Sassuolo this summer for £16.5million (€18m).
Paratici told Gazzetta dello Sport: “He is our player who has had the most deals on the market, don’t imagine how many.
“The Turk was requested by Milan but was also approached by Manchester United.”
It’s been claimed that Juventus were demanding £36m (€40m) for Demiral having also signed Matthijs de Ligt during the summer.
Manchester United’s new signings impressed during the opening game of the season against Chelsea.
Solskjaer’s side were 4-0 winners at Old Trafford last weekend and now travel to Wolves on Monday.
And the Norwegian was happy with how Maguire, Wan-Bissaka and James played against the Blues.
He said: “We’ve signed three fantastic boys, three fantastic personalities and we are delighted with them.
“He’s [Maguire] done exactly what we’ve signed him for, his presence in both boxes, his calmness and composure on the ball.
“He’s a leader and with him, David de Gea and Victor Lindelöf they marshalled that back line really well.
“It is important to have strong personalities at the back.”
