Southampton vs Liverpool LIVE: Confirmed team news, score as Jurgen Klopp eyes record win | Football | Sport

2.05pm A surprise start for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain against his former club and it’s the formidable front three we all expected.

The biggest news, though, is that goalkeeper Adrian has been past fit.

Joel Matip is in at centre-back and Joe Gomez, who started at right-back against Chelsea drops out.

James Milner keeps his spot in midfield but there is no place for Fabinho.

For the hosts, Jack Stephens and Danny Ings are casualties of their thumping by Burnley.

Southampton: Gunn, Valery, Vestergaard, Bednarek, Yoshida, Bertrand, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Hiojbjerg, Redmond, Adams

Liverpool: Adrian, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Wijnaldum, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mane, Salah Firmino

1.55pm This fixture last year was one of the games of the season as Liverpool were given a scare before running out 3-1 winners – and today should be no different.

Southampton’s dreadful defensive display in their 3-0 defeat at Burnley on the opening day will have the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino thinking they can fill their best at St Mary’s.

However, tried legs are certain to play a part and Klopp’s side have look da bit vulnerable at the back themselves.

The Liverpool boss has lost three games against them in all competitions – his highest number of losses to any club in his time in England.

1.50pm Thanks for joining Express Sport’s live coverage from St Mary’s. We’ll have the confirmed team news in around 10 minutes so stay tuned as we’ll be building up to action before kick-off at 3pm.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has a huge decision to make and might be tempted to rest some weary legs after a hectic start to the season.

Will Sadio Mane come back into the starting line-up after his brace in Istanbul? Or will in-form Divock Origi keep his place?

A win for Liverpool today would make it 11 Premier League victories on the bounce – a joint club record.
