Cristiano Ronaldo offers surprise response to Ballon d’Or question after Portugal haul | Football | Sport

Cristiano Ronaldo is not thinking about winning the Ballon d’Or despite netting four goals in one game for Portugal.

Ronaldo bagged four in the 5-1 win over Lithuania as reigning champions Portugal moved a step closer to Euro 2020 qualification.

Ronaldo has won the Ballon d’Or five times, last picking up the prestigious award back in 2017.

He finished second in 2018 and is among the favourites to earn the gong again in 2019.

Though Juventus star Ronaldo insists he’s not focusing on that and would rather put his attention into winning games for club and country.

“As I always say, I don’t live football thinking about individual prizes,” he said after Tuesday night’s win.

“That comes as a result of what is won collectively. But it’s good, I won’t lie.”

Ronaldo is still regularly impressing at the age of 34.

He joined Juventus last summer after nine years at Real Madrid having shone at Manchester United.

There is regularly speculation that he will call time on his international career.

Though Ronaldo dismissed that chat with Portugal having won Euro 2016 and the Nations League this summer.

“I feel good,” he said. “I am proud to represent my national team.

“I’m not only happy because of the goals I’ve scored, but also because of the level the national team has been at in recent years.”

Ronaldo’s focus will now turn back to Juventus following the conclusion of the international break.

The Portuguese star has netted once for Juve this season with the Old Lady facing Fiorentina on Saturday.

They then begin their Champions League campaign with a trip to Spain to face Atletico Madrid in the first group match of the season.
