Liverpool team news: Predicted 4-3-3 line up vs Newcastle – Alisson, Keita injury latest | Football | Sport
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to be able to call upon either Alisson or Naby Keita when the Reds face Newcastle this weekend.
Alisson injured his calf in the opening game of the season against Norwich and a return date for the Brazilian has not yet been specified.
Meanwhile, Keita is closing in on a comeback following a groin injury but the clash with Newcastle is expected to come too soon for the Guinea midfielder to feature.
Keita picked up the muscle problem in training before the Super Cup final against Chelsea last month and while Physio Room suggest he could face the Magpies, Klopp is unlikely to take such a risk.
Nathaniel Clyne is also sidelined after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament tear during the summer, although the right-back was unlikely to feature anyway.
Adrian will continue to deputise for Alisson in goal while Trent Alexander-Arnold will start on the right side of defence following his return from England duty.
Joe Gomez also linked up with the Three Lions during the international break but did not feature and is likely to be overlooked in favour of Joel Matip alongside Virgil van Dijk.
Andrew Robertson will continue at left-back while Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum should make up the midfield – with the latter scoring in both Holland’s recent victories.
In fact, Wijnaldum’s recent form in front of goal has sparked the suggestion that he could be deployed further forward by Liverpool in support of their impressive front three.
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are all expected to start against Newcastle, despite an apparent falling out between Salah and Mane against Burnley.
James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana provide strength in depth off the bench while Xherdan Shaqiri is another who will hope for some minutes against the Magpies.
Meanwhile, Steve Bruce will be without Florian Lejeune, DeAndre Yedlin, Matt Ritchie, Andy Carroll, Allan Saint-Maximin and Dwight Gayle for the trip to Anfield.
