Lionel Messi injury doubt

Lionel Messi is unlikely to feature against Borussia Dortmund next week.

The Argentine magician is still sidelined with a calf complaint that he suffered during pre-season training.

And Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde says he’s a doubt for Tuesday’s Champions League opener.

“I am not a doctor but it seems that the scar was opened a little and that made us more cautious. In terms of him being able to return, I don’t know if it will be Tuesday or maybe later,” he said. “I don’t want to say anything to lower expectations, but I find it difficult for Tuesday.”

Neymar return

Neymar is fit and ready to return to action this weekend.

PSG play Strasbourg on Saturday and manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed the Brazilian will be involved.

“Neymar’s return is well-timed given fellow forwards Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani will both miss the game due to injury,” Tuchel told reporters.

“Yes, clearly yes, of course, now everything is clear, we know our group, I’m very happy, we have a lot of talent, we have Neymar in our group, we have nothing else in our head, Ney too, and he can focus on us.”

Mbappe > Neymar?!

Barcelona are interested in signing PSG’s star forward… but it’s not Neymar!

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claim Barcelona will turn their attentions to signing Neymar’s colleague Kylian Mbappe in the summer of 2020.

The Spanish champions spent much of the summer trying to lure Neymar back to the Nou Camp but a deal could not be concluded.

Now, Mundo Deportivo claim Barcelona are plotting a move for Mbappe, 20, who they believe represents a better option with more potential.

Lionel Messi pressure

Barcelona wanted to sign Neymar to ease the pressure on superstar Lionel Messi.

The Catalan giants made several attempts to re-sign the Brazilian during the summer – but PSG’s £273million valuation proved too much.

“Messi is still the top player at the moment,” Gudjohnsen told Goal. “If he has an injury, as we have seen at the start of the season, then Griezmann can be someone to step in. With Neymar, that might be more of that thinking, even though it didn’t happen.

“I think Barcelona are looking to other players to take the pressure off Messi. How can we have other players around him to draw attention in a different direction. As soon as your attention goes off Messi, he pops up and scores you a few goals.”

PSG in for Kai Havertz

PSG have joined the battle to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz.

Yesterday it was reported that the 20-year-old prodigy was set to choose between Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

But Transfermarketweb claim the French champions are now involved.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool were reportedly interested in the £91million-rated star – but SportBILD made no mention of the Premier League club.

David de Gea undecided

David De Gea is still deciding whether to sign a new contract with Manchester United.

The Daily Mail claim United offered the Spanish goalkeeper a new long term contract worth £375,000-a-week before their pre-season tour.

But the 28-year-old is yet to sign it and Solskjaer has failed to give any guarantees about his future.

“I want David to stay here, he knows that,” said Solskjaer. “He’s the best goalkeeper in the world, we’ve seen that over the years, and I hope I can make sure he’ll finish his career at Manchester United at the highest level.

“There have been loads of talks, lots of discussions, between David and the club and hopefully we can get it done.”
