PSG player ratings vs Real Madrid: Di Maria upstages Hazard – but one star struggles | Football | Sport

PSG battled their way past Real Madrid to stun the La Liga giants and send out a Champions League statement of intent.

The Ligue 1 giants went into the game depleted with both Neymar and Kylian Mbappe missing the game through suspension and injury respectively.

But PSG were the better side against Real Madrid, with a brace from Angel Di Maria seeing them get their Champions League campaign off to a flying start.

Here are Express Sport’s player ratings from the epic European showdown between the two teams.

Keylor Navas – 6

Looked assured playing against his former side and had little to do.

Thomas Meunier – 7

Struggled playing against Gareth Bale at times but ensured the Wales international couldn’t do much. Got on the scoresheet, too.

Thiago Silva – 6

Was fortunate that Karim Benzema was anonymous and had little to do throughout the encounter.

Marquinhos – 6

Another player who will be thankful that Benzema appears to be past his best.

Juan Bernat – 8

Linked up with Angel Di Maria to devastating effect and looks a valuable asset to Thomas Tuchel.

Idrissa Gueye – 7

The former Everton star was composed on his Champions League debut for PSG and won his midfield battle with James Rodriguez.

Marquinhos – 7

Combated Casemiro to perfection, producing a fine display akin to the one he managed against Manchester United at Old Trafford last season.

Marco Verratti – 6

A solid, if unspectacular, outing for the Italy international.

Pablo Sarabia – 6

Tried his best but Real had his number for the most part.

Mauro Icardi – 5

With Mbappe injured it was the ideal chance for the Argentina international to make a name for himself. He struggled, however, with Eder Militao and Raphael Varane having his number.

Angel Di Maria – 9

The PSG star was the highlight for Thomas Tuchel’s side and his brilliant brace blitzed his former club.
